Critical Program Information

Physical Demands

The following physical demands represent the essential functions required to complete the Medical Assistant program and its associated clinical components. These expectations align with the standards of professional medical assisting practice.

  • Medical assisting students must be able to communicate effectively in English with patients, instructors, and coworkers through both speech and hearing.
  • The role is physically active and requires extended periods of standing and walking.
  • Students must be able to bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb as necessary to perform clinical duties.
  • The ability to lift, move, or support patients and objects weighing 50 pounds or more is required.
  • Visual requirements include close, distance, and color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus quickly.

Students who believe they may be unable to perform one or more of these essential functions due to a disability are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider and Student Services before beginning the program or clinical placement. Reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and institutional policy.

If a student’s physical condition changes during the course of study, it is their responsibility to notify the instructor or the Student Services office. The program will work with the student to determine appropriate accommodations or next steps to support continued success in the program.

Notice Regarding Convistion of a Crime

Employers in the healthcare industry (physicians, dentists, hospitals, clinics, etc.) may be reluctant to employ applicants convicted of a crime. Graduate placement is a vital function of the school; therefore, each student must understand that obtaining employment in the medical health field may be difficult if they have been convicted of a crime.
